At an English Comedy Club

A dear colleage of our IT department, Dan Merrick, made his career move to accept a new position at Leeds University. For his "leaving do", we first had an evening at the HaHa-Bar at the Millenium Square with drinks and dinner, and later we went to the Jongleur's comedy club. For me a chance to see British stand-up comedy live.

A cave-like atmosphere in the club, low ceilings, black walls, little lighting. And the heat... no airconditioning, and the warm Leeds summer sun outside during the day has heated up the air.

Three comedians, and one moderator. His name is Mike Wilkinson. He makes lots of jokes, mostly involving the attending people. I keep a low profile... as a German I certainly would create attention. The Danish guy "Soran" made the mistake to get this attention... several times Mike calls on him.

The first comedian, Quincy from London, is so so... a bit on the vulgar side - almost in every sentence is a word starting with "F..." ... . The 2nd comedian is Harvey Oliver, already funnier. Rough Northern-England humour, it is a bit difficult for me to follow all the fast-paced jokes and puns he makes, due to the heavy accent, but I get most of it and enjoy his pun lines.
The 3rd comedian is Jim Tavare, and he is actually quite funny, with his contrabass and the straight face he keeps!

An interesting evening, together with the friends from the Leeds Met Innovation North IT department.

thanks for your comment, Harvey! Sorry that I have mistaken your accent as a Yorkshire accent... just shows that I have to learn much more about English language.
